THE OLD CHAPEL Wootton Rivers

Reviews

Spent a lovely few days walking the dog in Savernake Forest and exploring the local area. The chapel was warm, cosy, private and felt like a little retreat from the world. Excellently equipped and lots of nice welcome extras. Emily was very helpful in providing arrival details and clear house information. Thanks for a fab stay! Highly recommended

This is such a perfect place to spend some time unwinding in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.

We have just arrived home from a wonderful few nights at The Old Chapel, it was exactly as described and we wish we could of stayed longer, so will definatly be returning.
I absolutely love rural Wiltshire and the countryside and this home is a real gem of a find and I am so pleased they happened to have a few days available on the days we needed, as it is a very popular listing quite rightly so.
The bed was so comfortable, stunning 100% cotton bedding, thick and soft pillows and duvet, complete luxury I will miss sleeping in a bed like that!
It was a perfect home to stay in for 2 adults and our well behaved little pug.
I am looking forward to booking a winter stay next time to make the most of the woodburner, as that will be so cosy on a winters evening.
Emily & Oli are the most helpful hosts, they were very quick at replying and they have put a lot of love and care into the building.
We now feel recharged and relaxed.
Highly recommend.

This is our second visit to the chapel. We returned because we loved it so much the first time.
First of all, Wootton Rivers is a perfect place to stay. The surroundings are so perfectly British, with the thatched-roof houses and Land Rover defenders driving everywhere.
Emily and Oli are fantastic hosts, and they have made an incredible vacation home out of this chapel. The chapel is stunning. It has the old-fashioned charm that we love, but also every amenity we could desire.
Wootton Rivers is within an hour from everything we wanted to do. Bath, Oxford, London, and the Cotswolds are all so easily within reach. We have children, and we would definitely recommend this property to anyone travelling with their kids. We liked the peaceful location of the chapel and its proximity to things we wanted to do.
We wanted for nothing in the chapel, and the hosts were responsive to every question and request we had.
If you’re looking for a perfect place to stay, look no further.

The only way to describe our week at the Old Chapel is “magical”! The accommodation was charming and meet all our needs, the back garden was a wonderful space for us to relax in, the village was quiet and beautiful, the surrounding countryside was full of enjoyable walks. Being able to charge our EV on site was very convenient! Thanks to Emily for looking after us so well.
— Steven, June 2023
It’s the second time we stayed at the chapel, both times were delightful. The host is always ready to answer any questions or help if needed. The chapel itself has every thing you need.
— David, April 2023
Absolutely wonderful weekend at the chapel. Excellent communication from the hosts. The chapel was very charming and clean. The village is very quaint and beautiful. We loved the village pub, it was super friendly and cosy inside. Gorgeous walks around the canal, a very enjoyable stay.
— Amy Jo, March 2023
We had a lovely weekend at the chapel. It was comfortable and suited our young family perfectly. It had everything we needed and more. We really enjoyed exploring the surrounding areas. The village was peaceful and everyone we spoke to was really friendly. We especially enjoyed the local pub and the walk along the river.
— Amy, February 2023
We had a lovely few days at the Old Chapel. The house is really cute and comfy with all the amenities you’d want. The village is pretty with some nice walks and a good pub for a drink nearby.
— Lizzie, February 2023
Gorgeous place to stay! The place is beautiful and really easy to relax, felt like a movie! Comfy bed, great fire place, kitchen easy to use and off road parking,
Everything you need, and a great welcome gift with essentials on arrival which was appreciated!
Recommend the local Chinese on the board in the kitchen too - delicious,
You won’t be disappointed 😃
— Harriet, January 2023
Absolutely lovely stay!! I will be thoroughly recommending it to a few friends.
Quick book it!
— Jamie, December 2022
Perfect little place for a weekend getaway. Lots of places for nice walks as well as farm shops in the area. Especially enjoyed having a log burner to cosy up to in the evenings. We took our 4 month old puppy with us and he had a great time, the garden was fully enclosed which allowed him to explore! The local pub is only a 2 minute walk down the road and full of locals, we enjoyed a nice Sunday roast there.

This is the best place we have stayed as a couple with a toddler. So often when you stay somewhere child-friendly, you miss out on charm or amenities: the “cosy getaway” feeling. The Old Chapel is gorgeous, and would be perfect for a couple’s escape. But (for us) even better than that: it had a high chair, washing machine, great heating, blender, baby gates, safe flat garden and a second bedroom (with various kinds of baby beds if you need them) with black out blinds. 5 *****, A+.
And the village is cute, the countryside is beautiful and the location is close to Avebury, Marlborough and (slightly further) Bath. Martinsell Hill was an easy walk with amazing views.
— Adele, October 2022
A perfect, cosy cottage in a peaceful location. We had everything we needed for our weekend stay including a lovely view down the garden to the field beyond.
— Tracey, October 2022
We stayed at The Old Chapel for a short family holiday, looking for somewhere to have a relaxed break with opportunities to go for walks and with plenty to explore in the local area. Emily and Oli’s place was just perfect and we would recommend to anyone! The house itself was beautifully renovated, really comfortable and well furnished, with modern kitchen and plenty of useful equipment and appliances too. The Old Chapel is also well set up for those with children, having a travel cot, high chair and boxes of toys and books for little ones. The garden is lovely too, with lots of space for children to play and a patio area to relax. Wooton Rivers is a lovely village, with play park, pub and canal within short walking distance. The village is also well located to explore Marlborough, Savernake Forest and the many local historical sites nearby. Emily was really helpful and quick to respond to any questions we might have, also offering local recommendations too. We would love to return again soon!
— Robert, September 2022
My 9-year-old son and I had the most wonderful stay in Emily and Oli’s delightful chapel. It really is the most perfect place to stay, and the village and surrounding area is utterly delightful. Oli and Emily couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. One of our best-ever Airbnb experiences. We’ll be back!
— Emily, July 2022
Absolutely wonderful stay at The Old Chapel over the Jubilee bank holiday. The place was perfect, very clean and offered everything we needed. The village is a beautiful, peaceful setting too with a lovely local pub just a 2 minute walk up the road. The hosts were very helpful and communication was excellent. One lovely little touch was a welcome basket on arrival with essentials and some treats too! We will most certainly be back!
— Beth, June 2022
Beautiful homely little get away. 10/10
— Topaz, April 2022
We really enjoyed our short break at the Old Chapel and wished we could have stayed longer. The building is very pretty and the space inside is cosy and well planned. The photos were very accurate and everything was spotlessly clean. We ate out in the evenings so we didn’t really use the kitchen, but it seemed to be very well equipped and there was a lovely big fridge and freezer. The bed was comfortable and the shower and hot water worked very well. We really appreciated the welcome presents which Emily left for us. You need to go down some quite tiny roads to get to Wootton Rivers and we found the route from the A346 was easier. Whilst there we went to Avebury, walked in Savernake Forest and walked along the Avon and Kennet canal - all were great but pretty muddy! We ate at the Swan at Wilton, which was good and friendly, and at Rick Stein’s in Marlborough which was very good. On our way home we stopped at the Ship in Upavon and had a brilliant Sunday lunch.
— Charlotte, March 2022
We had a lovely time at the old chapel! It was absolutely perfect for myself, husband and little girl who is 16 months. We also found a box of toys in the little room which went down wonderfully ! Really nicely decorated, clean and friendly hosts. Thank you !! X
— Megan, January 2022
A lovely, cosy, chapel which is perfect for a quiet getaway! Emily and Oli were fantastic hosts, everything was communicated perfectly and the extra basket of goodies was a wonderful addition to the start of our break! We’d thoroughly recommend this property to anyone wanting to escape for a tranquil break in a beautiful village!
— Hannah, January 2022
Thank you to Emily for a fantastic holiday we have had a fabulous week. We can certainly recommend this house. The house is compact and bijou but plenty spacious enough for a couple and child or dog. House is spotlessly clean and has every utility needed. Lovely long fire for the winter months. Comfortable bed and furniture. Superb location for the Marlborough area with wonderful walks around local forests and canals. Excellent pub grub in the area and local Pub yards from the house.
— David, January 2022
Honestly cannot fault the Old Chapel. It was absolutely perfect for a cosy break away for the 2 of us and our dog. Lots of lovely touches from the hosts, log burner, secure garden, and plenty of country walks over the hills or near the canal. Would definitely come back again.
— James, November 2021
This place is amazing! We really
Loved staying here. Hosts were 5 star Will definitely be recommending this Airb&b!
— Lottie, November 2021
We had a lovely couple of days at Wooton Rivers, the canal is a few minutes away and there are some great local walks. The Old Chapel has a wood-burning stove which was perfect for an afternoon with the papers. The town of Marlborough is good for an explore and we had a great dinner at The Red Lion Freehouse.
— Steve, October 2021
Brilliantly clean, lovely open fresh design with lovely extra touches such as bread, eggs, milk and coffee.
Lovely and warm and very peaceful. We went on some really nice walks from the chapel, as well as drove a few minutes down the road for even more. Great food around, especially Bunce’s in Marlborough for brunch. Would highly recommend this stay.
— Libby, October 2021
We had a lovely stay with 2 young children. Spotlessly clean and helpful to have travel cot set up for us and IKEA high chair available plus some toys and books for young children. Communication was great so we knew what was available for when we arrived and appreciated the basket of goodies including milk, eggs, bread and butter. Garden was a great size and secure for children with the added benefit of sheep in the field at the bottom. Pretty village and easy walk to the canal. Would stay again.
— Rosie, September 2021
We loved our stay in Old chapel. The place is very well furnished, cozy and full of character. There was a welcome basket and a hand-written note waiting for us, which was very thoughtful. Emily was very responsive and helpful.
My husband was especially delighted to be able to have fire going in the evening.
Parking is very convenient right next to the cottage.
Wootton Rivers is a gorgeous village full of beautiful thatched houses. Local 16th century pub is literally 2 mins away walking and serves decent food.
Old chapel is a perfect place to get away from the city, relax, go for walks, and drive up to some amazing sites, such as Stonehendge, Avebury or Castle Combes
— Liliia, August 2021
The Old Chapel provided us with the perfect weekend away. It is kitted out with everything you could need and is well situated for lovely canal and forest walks.

Emily was a great host and arrangements couldn’t have been more straightforward. I would highly recommend the Old Chapel and would certainly return if looking for a Wiltshire retreat.
— Jo, July 2021
We had a great few days at The chapel! It’s a lovely place in an stunning little village with plenty of walks nearby!

The welcome basket with fresh coffee, cakes, butter etc was a great touch.

Would highly recommend and stay again soon!
— Jonny, April 2021
Beautifully presented place with loads of character. More than enough space for the two of us plus dog (spare room as well which we didn’t need). Chapel has everything you could need including reliable WiFi, wood burner, Netflix and local maps/walks. Great location for walking and country pubs, with Marlborough close enough for supply runs. Little extras like local eggs, bread, butter, etc. made arrival really easy. Would highly recommend for a country escape! Emily and Oli were also really patient and helpful when we had to reschedule because of lockdown in spring.
— Jon, November 2020
We were so fortunate in finding The Old Chapel as a cancellation. It was just perfect for the two of us and our chocolate lab to spend a few days away. Such a delightful ‘conversion’ in a delightful location. Emily has put so much thought into everything. We loved the natural colours chosen throughout and just lots of thoughtful touches...like the shoe box!! The welcome pack of milk and butter and cakes were lovely BUT the ‘piece de resistance’ was the coffee!! It was utterly divine and such a lovely story on the ‘Flat Cap’ website. We’ll be ordering some for us and as Christmas gifts!! We just used the main bedroom but the small bedroom would be just perfect for a baby or younger child. It was great that there is a good sized garden which is dog (and child) safe. The village is just beautiful. We have never seen so many thatches! We enjoyed ‘pie night’ at the pub (phenomenal pies) and lots of walks locally...despite the weather! We walked along the canal path to Pewsey (about an hour) and enjoyed a delicious sausage sandwich at The Waterfront Bar & Bistro. We would highly recommend The Old Chapel as a great little place to stay.
— Simon, October 2020
Had a fabulous time, it really is a wonderful place to stay. Great communication with Emily & Oli, simple check in and lovely touches such as fresh eggs, milk, bread and butter. The Chapel is a delight, everything you need for a few days away, clean, comfortable and when you get the fire lit so cosy. Pub 2 minutes walk away was okay but much more choice in Marlborough which is 15 mins up the road. If you book you will not be disappointed!
— Phill, October 2020
You won’t find such a delightful place anywhere else it was perfect.
— Caroline, August 2020
Me and my husband stayed at The Old Chapel for 2 night as a treat on the way back from our honeymoon to Cornwall. What a beautiful home. It exceeded our expectations 10 times over. Wonderfully clean, it had everything we needed, with added extras too which was lovely. The chapel is dog friendly and our dog loved running around the enclosed garden and the bed provided too. The interior design was second to none. The log burner was amazing and kept us cozy all evening and all night. We had a walk on one of the suggested routes and it was beautiful. Thanks Emily and Oli for a lovely end to our honeymoon.
— Lucy, September 2020
The Old Chapel is full of charm, stylishly decorated and wonderfully cosy. You feel instantly welcome and at home. The location is wonderful in this most picturesque village of Wootton Rivers with lots of fantastic walks around. I can highly recommend :)
— Gwendoline, July 2020
We had the such a lovely relaxing weekend at Emily’s place. The accommodation was spotless and very homely with everything we could need for a great weekend away. Plenty of recommendations of things to do in the area was a nice touch, as was the welcome pack... We would definitely recommend this place, it exceeded our expectations
— Joanne, March 2020
Myself and a friend stayed at The Old Chapel for a few days and we absolutely loved it. The place was so pretty, extremely clean and fresh flowers and the breakfast basket were a lovely touch. Everything worked well. The beds were extremely comfortable and with Emily’s help, we managed to organise a taxi to a lovely restaurant one evening. Great spot for walking, Stonehenge and popping into Marlborough. We’ll definitely be back.
— Jo, March 2020
Perfect just as the pictures and description described, lovely that the heating was on when we arrived on a cold rainy February day. The welcome basket was a lovely surprise and kitchen had everything we needed. The village was gorgeous with lots of thatched cottages, a bit like a chocolate box. Walking along the canal was an added bonus (even if a bit muddy at this time Feb-20). Would definitely stay here again if looking in this area.
— David, March 2020
We had a fantastic stay at Emily & Oli’s home. Emily left a lovely hamper full of fresh local eggs (the tastiest we’ve ever tried), coffee, biscuits and more which was a really nice touch. The house was spotless and we really can’t fault the place! We’ll definitely be back again soon, thank you!
— Olivia, February 2020
Emily’s converted Chapel was absolutely delightful. Immaculately clean and tidy. I think the best holiday rental I’ve ever stayed in. She’d thought of everything, including a basket of goodies on arrival, a well stocked kitchen. Everything you could possibly want. Can’t think of a single way it could be improved.
— Scott & Sarah, January 2020
From the moment you walk in it’s clear that the Old Chapel is a real gem. Thoughtfully designed, immaculate and cosy, it is the ideal base from which to explore the neighbouring towns, walks and forests. However, it is also equipped with all the amenities you would need for a less active stay.

Emily and Oli went out of their way to accommodate us and keep in contact, and provided a lovely welcome basket upon arrival.

Though we were only there for a short weekend stay, it was a highly memorable and truly relaxing few days.
— Rhea. December 2019
This is the most beautiful, cosy, country cottage that most definitely lives up to expectations! It was so lovely to be left fresh bread, eggs and milk as we arrived late on the Friday so didn’t have to worry about breakfast on Saturday morning. We had a wonderful weekend and will definitely be returning. Thank you!
— Emily. December 2019
A really lovely little hideaway in a beautiful part of Wiltshire. Warm and cosy, with plentiful walks nearby. Spotless and very homely house with a autumnal weekend away. Thank you Emily.
— Robert. November 2019
Lovely, cosy place to stay. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and easy access to Marlborough. Would be perfect for a couple with a baby and a dog.
— Alison. November 2019
An absolutely beautiful converted chapel in an idyllic setting, furnished to the highest standard and spotlessly clean. Emily and Ollie have really thought through all aspects to make the stay as comfortable as possible. Perfect for the younger children as there i a park 100m away, and perfect for adults because the pub is about the same distance! We had a fantastic, relaxing couple of nights and would love to come back another time. Thanks Emily.
— Andrew. October 2019
My young family and I spent two nights at the chapel. Emily and Oli are perfect hosts and very quick to respond. When we arrived we checked ourselves in and found we were greeted with fresh local eggs, milk, bread and jam tarts which was lovely. The chapel is like a home from home, sparkling clean, very comfortable and in such a beautiful little village with lovely walks on your doorstep which the whole family enjoyed. Would love to stay again or possibly move in we loved it that much! Thanks for having us guys! Would HIGHLY recommend!
— Lewis, September 2019
I highly recommend The Old Chapel. It is a lovely space and is well equipped with everything you could need, even bowls and bed for a dog and an enclosed garden. The Royal Oak is just down the road and there are so many walks by the canal and in the forest. Don’t hesitate to book.
— Ursula, August 2019
Fantastic 3 night stay with our dog and 2 yr old child. This place is even better than it looks. It was sparkling clean and had a lovely welcome basket on arrival. The enclosed garden was perfect for the dog and toddler to let off some steam. The extra touches like blackout blinds in the bedrooms, the box of toys and books for kids, and the stair gates really made a difference. The kitchen has everything you need - it felt brand new! I would recommend this gorgeous place to anyone!
